Newsletter - March, 2018

The Sage Society
March Newsletter

·       Welcome to our three new members! We look forward to getting to know you.  ðŸ˜Š
ü Sandi Atkins
ü  Grace Cordial
ü  Jen Moneagle
Geni Flowers, Secretary, sent the updated directory with the February minutes.

·
Nimmie Huber, Patsy Deer, and Diane Gallagher will submit a recommendation for the money collected from dues in 2019. We will vote to select a recipient.
·
Barbara Hathaway will make a presentation on “Social Media-Past, Present, and Future.”   I can’t wait. I am clueless about all but email and a tiny bit of Facebook.
·
Tell me if you are bringing guests. We want to have nametags ready. 😊
·       Something to consider— related to supporting education and learning:
ü Mark your calendars for May 8, 2018!
The Beaufort History Museum Tea will be held in The Carolina Room at Dataw from 1:00-4:00 pm.
Tickets are $50 if you are with a table of ten and $60 for individual tickets.
The Theme of the tea this year is: Celebrating Sweet Tea, Demon Rum, John Barleycorn, Carolina Moonshine, and Other Legendary Libations.

Note:
Carol  Lauvray is President of BHM and Carol, Carla Marsh, Larry and Stuart are on the Tea Committee.  And… Geni gets “put to work” also. We would all appreciate your support for the Tea.

****Since many the Sage members are either involved with the Tea or planning to attend, we have cancelled the May Meeting.

Patsy Deer was the speaker for May and has graciously agreed to postpone.

 FABULOUS     News!!!
At our last meeting the following signed up to attend the Tea.
1.    Donna Armer
2.    Julie Schmidt
3.    Rebecca Davenport
4.    Diane Gallagher
5.    Patsy Deer
6.    Sandi Atkins
7.    Jerry Stocks
8.    Peggy Picket, a guest
9+……..we hope that more sign up at the March meeting.  😊 It would be fabulous to have TWO-to-THREE tables with Sage Society Members and Friends.

Remember, we can ask friends to attend the tea with us.  Come prepared to add your name to the list …and  the names of friends so that we can count them in with our “tables of 8.”
*Note: Carol, Larry, Carla, Geni and I will be working and at assigned tables, so we will not be counted in with the “Sage” tables. We need to fill our Sage Society tables of 8 to get the $50 pricing.
This would be a great time to get to know each other and socialize.

What better way than at a tea!

I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, March 13 at 4:00 in the OLLI Room at USCB.

The minutes of the January 9th meeting were approved.

Correction to Newsletter: Membership will be limited to 21 members.

General announcements included a request for an update from the subcommittee evaluating charities to be considered for our donation (will be given next month) and reminders of the March 5th Fashion Show benefitting the Beaufort Public Library Foundation and the May 8th Luncheon benefitting the Beaufort Museum.

The decision was made, by a show of hands, to cancel the May 8th meeting due to the conflict with the luncheon.

An update was given regarding funds that were delivered to Janie Ephland at Born to Read. They were very grateful to receive our donation.

Donna Armer gave a fabulous presentation on Mosaics and her time in Italy. The vibrant visuals and beautiful music were rivaled only by the delicious accompanying buffet of Italian delicacies (including some lovely Prosecco J).

The meeting adjourned at 5:00.

The next regular meeting of the Sage Society will be held on Tuesday, March 13th at 4:00 pm in the OLLI classroom (room 124 of the USCB Sandstone building.)
