Martha introduced Ruth Anne Lawson, our newest Sage member. Welcome Ruth Anne!
Ruth Anne has already agreed to make her presentation on May 12th. Yay!
The minutes of the January 14th meeting were approved with the correction that Diane
Gallagher is the Member-at-Large not Jen Moneagle as was incorrectly noted in the
January minutes
Diane Gallagher stated that the committee discussing the charities to be considered as
recipients for next year’s Sage dues money has met and that they are still looking for
suggestions. Past recipients are: The Guidance Counselor at Beaufort Elementary
School, Born to Read, Thumbs Up and Born to Read this year. Please send
suggestions for the 2021 dues to Diane no later than March 10th. You can bring these
suggestions to the meeting and please remember to provide a brief paragraph of the
charity and who it benefits. It doesn’t have to be literary in nature, just local and worthy.
The committee will the meet at the end of March to narrow down the choices to two and
we will vote on the final choice at the April meeting.
Reminder that annual membership dues of $25.00, in cash, are past due. [Side note:
There are still 3 members unpaid at this time. Please be sure to bring your dues
to the March meeting so that we can donate the money to Born to Read in a
timely manner. Thank you!]
The membership roster was sent around to members to be updated. An updated roster
will be sent out shortly.
Reminder that the Museum Tea is on May 19th. Please be sure to let Stuart know if you
would like to attend.
Peggy Pickett presented on SC Women in the American Revolution. She focused on 5
extraordinary women who played significant roles in the war. Her presentation was both
enlightening and entertaining. A Q & A session followed the presentation.
The meeting adjourned 5:10.

Martha Weeks called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm.
The minutes of the November 12th meeting
were approved.
Annual membership dues of $25.00, in cash, were collected from
each member. [Side note: There are 7 members unpaid at this time. Please be
sure to bring your dues to the February meeting so that we can donate the money
to Born to Read in a timely manner. Thank you!]
There was a discussion regarding charities to be considered as
recipients for Sage dues money. There seems to be some confusion as to what
year’s dues are donated to our designated charity. Born to Read was chosen last
year to receive the 2020 funds. A subcommittee, comprised of Jen Moneagle,
Member-at-Large, Diane Gallagher and Stuart Heath will discuss and vet
organizations to receive this money going forward. Please send any suggestions
for worthy recipients for consideration to them for the 2021
funds.
One new member, Ruth Anne Lawson, was voted in unanimously. Stuart
will be contacting her to let her know that she was accepted, and Martha will
send her a welcome letter.
Martha will be sending out a new roster of members which will
include the dates of membership. This will help as a reminder as to when our
presentations are due to be scheduled. A list was sent around with dates for
people to sign up for presentations.
Reminder that the Museum Tea is on May 19th.
Geni announced that the OLLI room will continue to be our meeting
space for the coming year. Renovations are planned to that room during the
summer but hopefully, that won’t affect us much. If the construction is not
completed by the time we come back in September, we will make other
arrangements at that time.
Peggy Pickett with be presenting on February 11th.
A card went around to send to Jerry – we wish her speedy healing!
Jen thanked everyone for the card we sent her.
The meeting adjourned 4:35.
The next regular meeting of the Sage Society will be held on
Tuesday, February 11th at 4:00 pm in the OLLI classroom (room 124 of the USCB
Sandstone building.)
