Stuart Heath called the meeting to
order at 4:00 pm.
Special guests: Anne Kennedy, Donna
Boggs, Barbara Dobbs and Meredith Oliver were acknowledged.
The minutes of the February 13th
meeting were approved.
The subcommittee evaluating
charities to be considered for our yearly donation met and Nimmie Huber gave
the following report: After considering several suggestions, the decision was
made to select the Thumbs Up program as the recipient of our dues in 2019.
Thumbs Up is a year round intervention program for children from Elementary to
Middle School age. There are programs for parents and kids, transportation
assistance, emergency food and aid where it is needed most. A Director makes
home visits to assess need. A motion was made by Barbara Hathaway to accept
this suggestion and was seconded by Julie Schmidt. The vote to accept was unanimous.
Stuart reminded everyone that we
would not be meeting May 8th due to a conflict with the luncheon
benefitting the Beaufort Museum that same day. A sign-up sheet was passed
around for anyone interested in attending the luncheon.
Barbara Hathaway shared with us her
very enlightening presentation on Social Media with helpful handouts including a Social Media Glossary, Social Media Fact Sheet and a
Bibliography. A lively question and answer period followed the presentation.
The meeting adjourned at 5:00.
The next regular meeting of the Sage
Society will be held on Tuesday, April 10th at 4:00 pm in the OLLI
classroom (room 124 of the USCB Sandstone building.)
