Stuart Heath called the meeting to
order at 4:00 pm.
The minutes of the November 13th
meeting were approved with the correction to remove Alvesta Robertson as a
guest. She did not attend the November meeting.
Dues were collected. Once all dues
are received, Stuart will deliver to Thumbs-Up, the organization chosen by our
members last year. Stuart gave a brief description of the mission of Thumbs-Up
with examples as to how this organization benefits the community.
Next item
on the agenda was the nomination and election of new members. Sponsoring
members gave brief bios of their proposed members. Complete bios were e-mailed
to the membership prior to the meeting. They are:
Debbie
Gray….Geni Flowers
Alvesta
Robertson…..Jerry Stocks
Mary Ann
Mikell……Jerry Stocks /Stuart Heath
Peggy
Pickett…..?? (Patsy Deer?)
Since there were four nominees and
four available slots, all proposed new members were voted in unanimously. They
will be invited to attend the meeting in February.
Election of slate of incoming
officers:
President – Martha Weeks
Secretary/Treasurer/Historian – Geni
Flowers (returning)
Member-at-large – Nimmie Huber
All new officers were voted in
unanimously.
There was a brief discussion of the
duties of the member-at-large. This person serves as the chair of the
Nominating Committee and the Dues Selection Committee. Stuart Heath and Jen
Moneagle volunteered to serve on the Dues Selection Committee. Remember to send
any suggestions of charities you would like to see benefit from our annual dues
collection to this committee.
The question was asked if there is a
general theme for selection of these charities. Primarily they need to be local
and preferably literary and/or historical in nature.
A suggestion was made to share the
membership directory with all members. This will be done once the new member
information is received. If there are any corrections or updates to the current
directory, please send them to Geni.
Stuart reminded everyone that she is
still taking donations or recommendations for books by local authors to be
included in her auction basket for the Library Federation Luncheon to be held
March 6, 2019.
Stuart presented lovely orchids to
the incoming officers and the membership gave a round of applause to Stuart for
her leadership these past two years.
The meeting adjourned at 4:40.
The next regular meeting of the Sage
Society will be held on Tuesday, February 12th at 4:00 pm in the OLLI
