General
business discussed:
The Hopeful Horizons project
has been slowed down a bit. We have
collected around 100 books for the children’s library which we hoped to deliver
this month. However, the organization
received a grant to paint the room which will probably not take place until
late June or July. As soon as the room
is ready, we will notify the membership to see who would like to help set up
the room and library. We have already
delivered stuffed animals and coloring books for the children.
Presentation by Debbie Gray
Topic: Forgotten Survivors: Widowed Servicemen’s Wives of World War II
Debbie presented an interesting and information history of
the lives of the women who were married to servicemen during and after World
War II. Her research was done in the
1990s as part of her Doctoral dissertation.
It included stories, facts and statistics about the women who were
either career military wives or war brides.
It also covered the challenges of the Gold Star Wives after the war
ended.
