Stuart Heath called the meeting to
order at 4:00 pm.
The minutes of the November 14th
meeting were approved.
As this was our annual meeting, dues
of $25.00, in cash, were collected from each member.
Katherine Brown’s e-mail of resignation
from Sage as Member-at-Large was acknowledged and accepted.
The announcement was made that Donna
Armer will be presenting her paper on mosaics in February. Claudia Cornett and
Martha Weeks will be on stand-by to fill in with presentations as needed.
Several changes to the Sage by-laws
were discussed and amended. They included:
· Eliminating the Vice-President position as it is not
necessary thereby restructuring Sage
officers to reflect: President, Secretary/Treasurer/Historian and
Member-at-large.
· Changing the term of officers from one year to two.
· Clarification of duties for Member-at-Large position which
includes gathering the slate for officer elections due in October to be voted
on in January. Melba Thomas was nominated to replace Katherine Brown in this
position and was voted in unanimously.
There was a discussion regarding
charities to be considered as recipients for Sage dues money. Born to Read, the
charity chosen last year for this year’s contribution, will receive the $425.00
collected this year. It was decided that a subcommittee be formed to discuss
and vet organizations to receive this money going forward. That committee is
comprised of Patsy Deer, Diane Gallagher and Nimmie Huber.
New members, Sandra Atkins, Jennifer
Moneagle and Grace Cordial were voted in unanimously. Stuart will be contacting
these ladies to let them know they were accepted and Geni will contact them via
e-mail to gather their information for inclusion in the Sage membership
directory.
There was a discussion regarding expanding
Sage membership from 21 to 28 members. There was concern expressed about
getting too big and about the 4 year presentation gap being too long. After
more discussion there was a show of hands which indicated that the majority of
the members wanted to keep the membership at 21.
A discussion of member nominations
followed. In keeping with the by-laws, it was concluded that potential members
could be invited to attend two meetings. The suggestion was made that we find
two people for right now (to get membership up to 21) and for all members to
start thinking about anyone who may be interested in joining. Stuart asked that
if any member currently has candidates for consideration, to please send her an
e-mail.
It was decided that we will start a
practice of letting members know via e-mail when other members have withdrawn.
The meeting adjourned to a social
hour with refreshments at 5:00.
The next regular meeting of the Sage
Society will be held on Tuesday, February 13th at 4:00 pm in the OLLI classroom
(room 124 of the USCB Sandstone building.)
