The Sage Society
February 2022 Newsletter
Dear Sage Society Members,
We had our January Annual Meeting as planned and in spite of the Omicron Invasion we did have a quorum. Welcome to our two new members, Lex Bomar and Bonnie McCardell, of the Class of 2022.
Plan to pay your $25.00 dues if you have not done so.
Please consider the Section 2 Amendment to the Bylaws which would allow voting in of new members during the year. This change will be put to a vote on Feb 8th. That hour will be a fulsome meeting as we will take a few minutes to hear the presentation on “Dues Distribution” by Sandi Atkins and Jen Moneagle and then hear this month’s program, “Along Came Phosphate”, by Stuart Heath.
Stuart is also working on a new format for our nametags.
Guests/possible new members are welcome but it is helpful if you can let me know ahead so we can space the chairs accordingly.
I delighted to tell you that Debbie Gray is going to fill the May 10th program slot. Plan to hear Donna Armer on March 8, Barbara Hathaway on April 12 and Debbie Gray on May 10. That will be our last meeting until September 13 when Melba Thomas will kick off our fall program.
Community Notes: Books Sandwiched In continues every Monday at noon at USCB until March 7th (free). There will be two more HBF History of Beaufort lectures on February 3 and 10 from 6-8pm also at USCB (ticketed event).

Proposed Amendment to Section 2 in Red
A prospective new member may be proposed by an active member though the year.
A potential new member may be invited to attend 2(two) meetings a year whenever possible.
New members may be voted on throughout the year, if there are vacancies
Rationale for Amendment
As of January 12, the membership consists of 18 members (2 of whom were voted in at the 2022 Annual Meeting.) It was planned that a full membership would be 24 (twenty-four). In 2020 we added one new member and accepted resignations from 4 (four). To be “full” we could add 6(six) new members.
Mission Statement: The purpose of The Sage Society is to foster ongoing in-depth study of topics using research and communication skills to further the knowledge of its members.
